Lung function tests, also known as pulmonary function tests (PFTs) measure how well a person’s lungs and respiratory system are working. At The Coker Chest Clinic we undertake all lung function tests at our private clinic in London.
Our respiratory physician may request lung function tests to identify if you have a problem with your lungs. They are used to help test for a wide variety of respiratory conditions like asthma, allergies, bronchitis, COPD, sarcoidosis, and respiratory infections.
Lung function tests measure a variety of parameters, including the amount of air you can take into your lungs, how fast (and how much) air you can blow out, how strong your breathing muscles are, and the amount of oxygen the lungs deliver to the blood.
Types of lung function tests:
- Spirometry test
- FeNO (nitric oxide) test
- Reversibility test
We use the most up to date equipment, and maintain the very highest standards of cleanliness to prevent spreading germs between patients. Tests are very safe, though some may experience dizziness, shortness of breath, and coughing.
